Welcome to TheCounter's homepage

This page deals with computer aided analysis of digital images taken from (immuno-)histochemically stained microscopic sections.
If you came here looking for the similar named tool for counting a web pages viewers you should consider using

Nowadays automatic and semiautomatic staining solutions in combination with modern image aquisition systems make it easy to produce very large amounts of data in a considerably low amount of time, however the analysis of that data often turns out to be time consuming and difficult. The idea to overcome this bottleneck lead to the development of TheCounter.

Of course there have been many approaches to develop such a program and there are in fact some commercial solutions available but they are:

On the other hand TheCounter can process many common image file formats and is free software which does not only mean that you can download and use it free of charge but also get the source-code and change the program to suit whatever your needs are.
It allows, among other things, for cell or particle counting, particle measurements such as determining area and perimeter and for simple color analysis.
As of now particle counting and determining the areas to measure in have to be carried out manually, still there might be an automatic implementation of particle counting in future versions. Finally the program is designed in a way that makes counting very easy and fast so it already provides a powerful tool for image analysis.

If you are still curious you might want to use the links to the left to find out more or simply try out TheCounter.
